Hello you wonderful lot,

Isn’t it wonderful to have some sunshine and blue skies? And to see the crocuses and daffodils popping up all over. (Happy St David’s Day for Saturday!!)

As the weather perks up and the days get longer I’m sure lots of us will be looking forward to spending more time outside. This week’s recipient had been enjoying getting back on their bike after some really challenging health problems – only to have it stolen. So of course, we were thrilled to step in and offer up this week’s donation to go towards a new bike – offering a reminder that there are plenty of good hearts in the world! We wish Sarah all the best with her recovery and her upcoming triathlon! We’re also thrilled to welcome her and her partner to join the group and keep spreading the love!!

Sending love to you all.

Hi all,

A friend of mine has just had her bike stolen. Annoying for most people but for my friend Sarah a real loss at a time when she really needed it. She had a pretty traumatic 2024, starting with an ovarian cancer diagnosis and an expectation that it would be terminal. A month or so later she found out it was actually a much rarer type of cancer. This meant the prognosis was recovery! Brilliant!  But… the treatment was very intense – referred to by her surgeons as “The mother of all surgeries”! She had 8 organs removed and had to have everything that remained taken out and washed in hot chemo!! It was touch and go a couple of times but thanks to her partner Emma’s quick thinking and the wonders of the NHS, she made it through.

The recovery and recuperation have obviously taken time, but Sarah is very determined and had bought a bike to help with her rehab. She is even training for a triathlon later this year as a recovery goal and a way of taking charge of her life after such a frightening year last year. She’s absolutely amazing!!!

Having recently returned to work part time in her job at at the Heath Hospital in Cardiff,  she rode her bike to work on Wednesday – and it was stolen. She’s obviously gutted. Having not worked for a year and now only able to work part time, affording a new bike is not really possible. And without the bike she won’t be able to maintain her rehab programme or training.

I would love to be able to show her that there are good people in the world and give her a boost as she tries to go positively into 2025!!

And here is Sarah’s response when she heard about our gift…

Hi Jen, Em has just called me and passed on your message and it’s taken me a moment to take it all in. I’m pretty stumped for words but I’m unbelievably grateful for your kindness and for thinking of me—it truly means so much. You are one of life’s good people, and your fund raising Community are truly special folks.  I’m pretty blown away by your generosity as by putting things on social media I had only hoped to keep people’s eyes peeled to get the bike back, but this has completely blown me away. I have to admit, I feel a little guilty accepting your gift, but even more than that, I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have someone like you in my life. Out of a frustrating situation has come absolute kindness and I want to Thank you so very much. Is there anyway I can join the community to be able to be part of this in the future? It’s an amazing idea, Sarah xx
